Understanding the processes that shape biodiversity and ecosystems
“Botanists know too well that when forest is destroyed the ancient verdure of the earth is lost for ever; trees depart in flames and no mantle descends to clothe our ignorance.”
E.J.H. Corner (1952) Wayside Trees of Malaya
Welcome to the Plant Ecology, Evolution and Biogeography Lab, based in the Center for Nature Based Climate Solutions at the National University of Singapore.
Our lab studies how the ecological and evolutionary processes that underlie present-day patterns in plant biodiversity and ecosystems dynamics are shaped by their ever-changing biotic and abiotic context. Our work is multi-disciplinary and combines field-based ecology, cutting-edge sequencing approaches, big biodiversity data, and the development of new analytical and simulation models. We hope these insights will inform the conservation of tropical ecosystems and biodiversity.
